Christina squealed excitedly as her mother opened the front door. She sprinted up the driveway to her mother and flung her arms around the woman's neck.
Even though they lived in the same city, neither Christina nor her parents had found anytime to visit each other.
"It's awesome to see you!" she said, kissing her mother's cheek.
"And you," Laura Davis replied, with a grin that Christina knew so well.
Christina stepped inside the house; Laura shut the door behind her and they went into the living room, where Roger and Oliver were standing, waiting.
Roger lifted his little girl into the air and spun her around.
"Daddy!" she screamed happily. "Daddy stop! I'm too old for this!"
Roger let her down carefully, his deep laugh resonating through the house as he pulled Christina into a hug with his strong arms.
When Christina pulled away, she immediately pounced on her little brother.
Oliver cried out, his voice muffled from Christina's jersey.
"Gerroffme!"
Oliver shoved his sister away, somewhat angrily, but no one fell for it because of the wide grin on his face.
"How is everyone?" Christina asked, happier than she could ever be, except for when she was with Drake.
"We'll tell you over lunch," Laura said, gesturing to the dining room, where there was a banquet laid out.
There were bowls of salad, a roasted duck and turkey, steaming potatoes and brocolli, cauliflower and carrot gratin.
Christina grinned at the centrepiece as she sat down. In the middle of the table was an oversized cocktail glass of gummi bears.
"Mom, you've gone all out haven't you?"
Laura nodded. "We haven't seen you in six months darling," she said. "Of course we've gone all out."
As they made their way through dinner, they exchanged experiences.
Roger's business trip to China and Japan, the discovery of Oliver's mutation and the family trip to San Fransisco.
Drake's rescue, the bombing of Twilight, the backyard battle.
They had just finished eating the lunch and were making their way through the gummi bears when there was a knock at the door.
Christina answered it.
